Dr.Kenneth Huynh

I started my medicine career in the U.S Navy at 20 years old. I joined the Navy as a hospital corpsman recruit in 2006. I wanted to do my part to help our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan following the “9-11” event. I was trained in a wide variety of specialties search as phlebotomy, surgery, emergency medicine, and urology to name a few. Although like most corpsmen, I did not specialize in any particular field. After graduating 3rd in his class, I were sent to my first duty station in Guam. At Guam Naval hospital, I worked in the MSU before moving to the ICU where I was eventually put in charge of the unit. During this time, I was working 12 hours nightshifts while attending University of Guam in the morning. Even though I did not know what I wanted to major in; I knew I wanted a degree in medicine. I knew I wanted to make a difference in this world by practicing medicine. After 2 years in Guam, I was transferred to Camp Lejeune where I was promoted to a hospitalman 2nd class. I specialized in field medicine as a fleet marine force (FMF) warfare specialist. In those three years with the marine infantry unit, I was able to observe many war injuries as well as the toll it took in military personnel and civilians. I realized that western medicine/ Navy medicine was one of the best medical systems in our modern time. Yet, there were many areas that patients would need more help, such as: pain management, spiritual health, and emotional health. Thus I decided to research more in to alternative medicine, namely, acupuncture and herbology.

Fortunately, having grown up in a family where traditional Vietnamese medicine was the norm, I didn’t have any trouble believing that it works. I can still remember following my dad around as he performed acupuncture on patients in Vietnam. I asked him to teach me then, but he said I wasn’t ready. Of course, I was 10 years old at the time. My dad never pushed me to follow his footsteps. He let me find my own way. For a long time, I thought I would spend my life practicing modern medicine. The more I did research on traditional oriental medicine, however, the more I was drawn in. I realized there was so much I didn’t know. There was so much I took for granted about this 5500 years old medical system. Finally, I realized that there was so much of traditional oriental medicine that not only coincide with western medicine perspective, but would compliment it well. By integrating these two medical systems, we have the old working to strengthen the new as well as the new school of thought bringing fresh perspective to age old healing methods. I decided to complete my formal training in oriental medicine. I graduated top of my class, and earned my A.P, D.O.M in 2014. I started practicing right away in a partnership. After practicing for about three years, I have developed my own acupuncture and herbology style; one that integrates the Huynh’s family techniques that was passed down to me and the western thoughts I’ve learned in the Navy.

Now, settling down in St. Petersburg, Florida, we forward to work with many more patients. I value each opportunity to be part of a patient story to recovery, as each story is strongly inspiring in its own way. It is our privilege and honor to help every patient that comes through our doors.
